What Parents Say About Us

Thank you Carol & Olivia for the very warm welcome. The hospitality, expertise and care made this place a no brainer for me. My child loves this centre so much and has been doing a lot of fun educational activities. It is a calm centre with very generous and thoughtfully put details, including a coffee making station (huge hit more me!), room for parents to work, a welcome bag with toys, water bottle, balloons. The absolute stand out is that it’s not overcrowded and the kids are all close knit with have plenty of attention and space. No tantrums to be heard or kids fighting to get the same toy. The educators do such a wonderful job to welcome every child, and create a warm, calm environment. Having educators in a good state of mind, without overwhelming work, shows in the kids at the end of the day… they are well regulated and confident in their safe space. Thank you again!

I honestly can’t recommend this centre enough! My son has only been attending for a week, but from the very beginning, the management team have been absolutely amazing and have gone above and beyond. As a mum of a child with additional needs, finding the right daycare can be incredibly challenging. My son is non-verbal and wouldn’t be able to participate in a typical school-readiness program. I viewed several brand-new centres in the area, and each time I explained his needs, I was made to feel that perhaps daycare wasn’t the right option for him yet. It was honestly so disheartening. Then I found this centre, and the experience has been completely different. From the communication before he even started, to their willingness to understand his needs and include him, I have felt genuinely supported. They have shown that inclusion isn’t just something they say — they actually put it into practice. They have made me feel that my son is welcome, valued and cared for, exactly as he is. It’s still early days, but I already feel incredibly grateful that we’ve found a centre that genuinely cares about my child and wants to see him thrive. If you’re looking for a daycare that truly cares, communicates and goes above and beyond — especially if you have a child with additional needs — I highly recommend this centre. ❤️

Rooted in Nature, Grow Together.

Nature-Connected Environment

Open surroundings and expansive views create a calming space where children connect with nature daily.

Generously Sized Classrooms

A generous amount of additional space per child gives children more freedom to explore, create, and learn.

Warm, Home-Like Atmosphere

Our caring and dedicated educators create a warm, nurturing environment where every child feels safe, supported and truly at home from the moment they arrive.

About the Centre

Fig Tree Early Learning Centre opened in The Gables to give families in north west Sydney a different kind of early learning experience, one with more space, more nature, and more time for children to grow into themselves. We're a long day care service for children aged six weeks to five years, open Monday to Friday year round, built around a simple idea: young children thrive when they feel safe, known, and given room to explore.

Our Values

Care & Respect

Every child seen, heard, and valued for who they are

Trust & Safety

A secure environment where families feel confident

Growth & Development

Learning that meets each child where they are

Community & Connection

Strong relationships between children, families, and educators

Age Based Rooms

Your child progresses through four rooms designed for their developmental stage. Each space is shaped around what children at that age need, gentle routines for the youngest, more independence and challenge as they grow.

Nursery

(0 to 2 years)

Gentle routines, sensory exploration, and secure attachments. Our smallest space, set up for sleep, feeding, and quiet exploration.

Toddlers

(2 to 3 years)

Language development, social skills, and growing independence. Lots of movement, lots of vocabulary, lots of figuring out how to play together.

Junior Preschool

(3 to 4 years)

Creative play, problem solving, and early friendships. Children start choosing their own activities and discovering what they love.

Senior Preschool

(4 to 5 years)

School readiness, confidence, and independence. The final year with us, where everything they’ve learned comes together.

Why Fig Tree?

WELCOME TO

Fig Tree Early Leaning Centre

Our Philosophy

Our approach to early learning is grounded in the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), but the daily reality of it is much simpler than that sounds. We believe young children learn best through play, through relationships with the adults around them, and through being trusted to lead some of their own discovery. That means our days aren’t filled with worksheets or rigid timetables, they’re filled with children doing what comes naturally and educators guiding the learning that emerges.

We balance child led inquiry with intentional teaching, so children build curiosity and confidence at the same time as the foundational skills they’ll carry into school. Behaviour is communication. Curiosity is a strength. Every child is capable. These aren’t slogans on a wall, they’re the principles that shape how we talk to children, set up our rooms, and design every part of the day.

Our Environment

Our centre is intentionally spacious. Classrooms are generously sized, with natural light, soft furnishings, and open shelving that invites children to choose their own activities. The feeling is more home than institution, which matters when a child is spending a full day with us.

Outdoors, we make the most of our location near parks and natural reserves. Children spend a meaningful portion of every day outside, in the garden, exploring sensory play, climbing, digging, or simply being in fresh air. Nature isn’t a backdrop here, it’s part of how we teach.

Our Educators

Our team isn’t here for a job. They’re here because they love this work, and it shows in the relationships they build with the children in their care. We hire educators who are warm, curious, and committed to the long term, and we work hard to keep them, because consistency matters more than almost anything else in early learning.

When you walk in, you’ll see the same faces week after week. Your child’s educator will know their routines, their favourite books, what makes them laugh, and what helps them settle when they’re upset. That kind of familiarity isn’t a luxury, it’s the foundation everything else is built on.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ages do you cater for?

We welcome children from 6 weeks to 5 years old across four age based rooms: Nursery (0 to 2 years), Toddlers (2 to 3 years), Junior Preschool (3 to 4 years), and Senior Preschool (4 to 5 years).

How much does it cost?

We’re Child Care Subsidy approved, which can significantly reduce your out of pocket costs. Many families pay less than half the daily fee. Call us on 1800 338 558 for a personalised fee estimate based on your family income and work schedule.

Are meals included?

Yes. All meals are included in your daily fee: breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, and a late snack. Meals are freshly prepared onsite daily, and we cater to all dietary requirements including allergies and cultural preferences.

What areas do you serve?

We’re located in The Gables and serve families throughout the Hills District including Box Hill, Box Hill North, Rouse Hill, Schofields, Tallawong, Kellyville, and surrounding areas. Easy access from Windsor Road and Schofields Road.

How do I book a tour?

Call us on 1800 338 558, submit an enquiry through our website, or email [email protected]. We’ll arrange a time that suits your schedule, and you’ll get to see our centre, meet our educators, and ask any questions.

Are your educators qualified?

Yes. All our educators hold recognised early childhood qualifications (Diploma or Bachelor degrees in Early Childhood Education). They also maintain current Working With Children Checks, First Aid, CPR certifications, and participate in ongoing professional development.

What is the Early Years Learning Framework?

The EYLF is Australia’s national framework for early childhood education. It focuses on five key learning outcomes: identity, community, wellbeing, learning, and communication. We use this framework to guide all our programmes and ensure quality, recognised learning.

How do you handle challenging behaviour?

We use positive guidance techniques that help children understand their feelings and develop self regulation. We work closely with families to maintain consistent approaches between home and centre. Behaviour is communication, and we focus on understanding what your child needs.

Can I visit during the day to see my child?

We have an open door policy. You’re welcome to visit, though we recommend calling ahead to ensure we can give you our full attention. Some children settle better without surprise visits, so we’ll work with you to find what works best for your child.

Do you teach reading and writing?

We teach early literacy skills through play, songs, and stories. Children learn letter recognition, sounds, and begin writing their name. We don’t use formal worksheets as research shows play based learning is more effective for this age group. By the time they start school, children are confident with foundational literacy skills.

How much screen time do children have?

We have a no screen time policy during the day. Children learn best through hands on experiences, not passive screen watching. We focus on real play, outdoor exploration, and genuine social interactions.

Will my child be ready for school?

Yes. Our Senior Preschool programme specifically prepares children for the transition to primary school. We focus on social readiness (the most important factor), academic foundations, and independence skills. Children leave us confident and excited about school, not anxious.

Do you follow a set curriculum or is it child led?

We use a balance of both. We follow the EYLF which gives us a structured framework, but we also observe children’s interests and extend their learning based on what they’re curious about. It’s intentional teaching that responds to each child, not a rigid one size fits all approach.

What happens on a tour?

You’ll see all our rooms and outdoor areas, meet available educators, ask questions about our programmes, discuss your child’s needs, and get a feel for whether Fig Tree is the right fit for your family. Tours typically take 20 to 30 minutes.

Do I need to book a tour before enrolling?

We strongly recommend it. Seeing the centre in person helps you make an informed decision, and it gives us a chance to understand your family’s needs. However, if you’re unable to visit in person, we can arrange a virtual tour.

How quickly will you respond to my enquiry?

We aim to respond within 24 hours on business days (Monday to Friday). If you need urgent information, call us directly on 1800 338 558 during centre hours (7am to 6pm).

Is there parking available?

Yes. We have free onsite parking for families doing drop off and pick up. No need to worry about finding street parking or paying for parking.
